AI Policy

Ax Publications (AxP) recognizes the increasing use of  AI and generative AI technologies in scholarly communication. The journal permits the limited use of such tools, provided that their application is transparent, ethical, and does not compromise the integrity of academic work.

Authorship

AI tools, including generative AI systems, cannot be listed as authors or co-authors. Authorship is restricted to individuals who have made a substantive intellectual contribution to the research and manuscript. AI systems do not meet authorship criteria and must not be credited as such.

Use of AI in Research and Writing

The use of AI tools is restricted to supportive and non-substantive tasks. AI must not be used to generate core scholarly content, including original arguments, interpretations, analyses, or conclusions. The production of substantial sections of a manuscript, such as literature reviews, results, or discussions, using AI is not permitted. Authors are responsible for ensuring that all submitted work reflects their own intellectual contribution. All references and sources must be accurate and verifiable. The inclusion of fabricated or inaccurate citations generated by AI tools is strictly prohibited.

Permitted Use

AI tools may be used to support the presentation of research, including language editing, improvement of clarity and readability, formatting assistance, or technical support. AI-assisted data processing or coding may be used provided that all outputs are verified and validated by the authors.

Transparency and Disclosure

Authors must disclose any use of AI tools in the preparation of their manuscript. Disclosure must be included in both the cover letter and within the manuscript and should specify the tool used, the purpose of its use, and the extent of human oversight.

A statement such as the following should be included where applicable:

During the preparation of this manuscript, the authors used [tool name] for [purpose]. All outputs were reviewed, revised, and validated by the authors, who take full responsibility for the content.

Where no AI tools have been used, authors may include the statement:

No AI tools were used in the preparation of this manuscript.
Responsibilities of Authors

Authors remain fully responsible for the originality, accuracy, and integrity of all content, including any material produced with the assistance of AI tools. The use of AI does not diminish or transfer responsibility for the manuscript.

Editors and Reviewers

Editors and reviewers must maintain strict confidentiality throughout the peer-review process. Manuscripts and associated materials must not be uploaded to AI tools or external systems. AI must not be used to generate peer-review reports or editorial decisions.

Ethical Compliance

This policy is consistent with internationally recognized publication ethics standards, including guidance from the Committee on Publication Ethics. Any misuse of AI tools that compromises research integrity will be treated as misconduct and addressed in accordance with established ethical procedures.
